Humane Society of Kawartha Lakes successful with Infrastructure Stimulus Fund Grant! It was announced on Monday, December 21st 2009 that the Humane Society of Kawartha Lakes (HSKL) will be receiving $800,000 from the federal/provincial government towards building a new animal shelter. The HSKL is required to raise $400,000 on their own locally to meet the $1.2 million target. This grant takes us to the next level in the evolution of the HSKL. An expanded shelter will allow for more space for the animals, staff and volunteers, as well as enhanced air ventilation, an isolation room for sick animals and possibly a veterinarian on staff. Our volunteers and staff will be working hard to continue fundraising to ensure our community's animals have a home that we can all be extremely proud of.
