The Honey Fund

It was fall, 2002 when a small scruffy dog was found wandering aimlessly and brought into the shelter. Besides some obvious bathing needs, she would require some costly medical procedures as her eye had a serious infection. A fund was soon established to help cover the costs of her extensive dental work, having her eye removed and getting her spayed. The staff decided she should be called Honey, not only because of her colouring and sweet nature but for her striking similarities to the OSPCA poster pup who was also missing an eye.
Thanks to the support of our community, all of Honey's vet costs were covered.
The "Honey Fund" was able to save the life of many other dogs that would have been put to sleep.
Honey's legacy continues to this day. If an animal needs medical attention that the the shelter can't afford, we turn to the Honey Fund.
Barb affectionately known as the treat lady, volunteers in the laundry room here at the society. Barb who was adamant that she would not take in another dog, fell in love with Honey as she recuperated from her surgeries. Honey had found a wonderful home.
Honey loved to spend her days sleeping behind the couch and sleeping on the bed with Barb at night. She loved to lay with the cats and welcomed Barb when she came home. Her favourite treat was peanut butter and honey dog biscuits.
Sadly, Honey passed away on March 29, 2007. She spent her last years in a caring and loving home, finally knowing what it was like to be a beloved pet. She will never be forgotten thanks to the continued efforts of "The Honey Fund".
