- More than 1800 cats and 700 dogs have been adopted in the last 10 years
- At any given time, up to 18 dogs and 100 cats can reside at the shelter
- The HSKL receives calls daily regarding stray and/or feral cats
- In the past two years, adoption rates have increased by 25%
- All mature animals are spayed or neutered before adoption
- All cats and dogs are micro-chipped to ensure their health and safety
- The HSKL does not receive any ongoing funding from any level of government
- There are over 60 volunteers who help care for the shelter animals every week
- The HSKL has a 'Honey Fund', which is dedicated to shelter animals in need of extensive medical care
- A visitation program with shelter cats takes place at various long-term care homes within the City of Kawartha Lakes
- A Wish List is available which outlines current needs for the shelter.
